Somewhere halfway between a Showband, a céilí band and an elastic band is where you’ll find Trá Pháidín. There is no word that they haven’t yet used to make themselves appeal more to the public like jazz with traditional music with kosmiche but, recently they were given a fair and just title:
«Tony Allen and Andy Irvine in an elevator» (Fella in the Bierhaus, Galway 4/5/2024)
An enigmatic, but unstoppable force in independent Irish music, the experimental, many-headed ensemble released their third album An 424 – a full length record written in honour of the bus that goes from Galway city to the Connemara Gaeltacht, inspired by the change of landscape from rural to urban……and the sociolinguistic spectrum of post-colonial Ireland.
Offering up an utterly compelling blend of jazz, folk, art-rock and polished chaos, the group have clocked up support slots for the legendary likes of Squid, Katie Kim and John Francis Flynn.
Some say there’s loads and none of them…
Some say they’re an accidental céilí band…
Some say they are the pride and shame of the gaelic league…
Some say it’s kinda like trad, jazz, krautrock and insanity with some improv….
Some say they’re either called Trá Pháidín or Báidín Fheilimí….

«The best band in the country already has three albums out… Their (somewhat rare) live shows are every bit as explosive as the records, their records roar with the energy of their live shows», — Fourth Best
«With shades of Popol Vuh, Can, Amon Duul II and Irish trad, Trá Pháidin’s debut release, ‘Set a hAon’ on Sunshine Cult Records, is a sprawling, swerving opus», — The Quietus
